I was bored sitting at home, Packed up my gear and headed out. My son Lukas drove me to the AT at the 873 bridge near Slatington, Pa. I knew it would be dark within an hour, We said our goodbyes and I started hiking. About 30 minutes of this hike was in total darkness of the night. I used one of two light,s I carry to help me see on the trail. I feel at peace in the wilderness. Tested out lots of new gear. A Kelty 5100 Durango pack, great for long duration hikes and lots of other good stuff. Made a nice dinner, had a good sleep and a pleasant walk home the next morning. One thing I forgot was my new Cabelas trekking poles. Im sure they would have helped with the 55 lbs load I was hauling, Next hike ! Happy Trails

I was originally looking for a blanket that had a waterproof shell to wrap up in while watching those rainy baseball/softball and soccer games. But, I saw this and thought it would be perfect for picnics and the beach. So, even though I couldn’t wrap up in it I bought it. I like the concept; but, after my first use I noticed the black vinyl backing had small tears in it. Definitely not as durable as I would have thought. It was also nice for us because it was compact and the carrying strap kept our hands free to carry other things like children and beach toys. Once you get the hang of folding it, it is really easy and quick to do (which is helpful if it starts raining suddenly). It also folds in so that the dirt doesn’t get the top dirty. Others have said it’s thin- it is, but if it were any thicker it would be too bulky. It’s also nice because the sand brushes right off. One caution though- if it gets wet, let it dry before folding or hang it open once you get home because mildew may start growing. That happened to us and a few weeks later I opened it up and there were spots of mildew. So I followed the directions and washed it on the delicate cycle in our washing machine. When it came out the backing was ripped in multiple places and not repairable. It’s nice and roomy, is comfortable to sit or lay on, and does not blow away when it gets windy. It’s also a great place to put all your beach bags and towels to keep them off the sand. It rolls up into a very compact size, is easy to carry back and forth, and is not heavy. The last time that I was at the beach the people next to me wanted to know where they could get one. This is a very convenient way to help you relax at the park or the beach, and far superior in terms of comfort and convenience to using a standard blanket. However, across the front of the backpack is embroidered, in inch high letters, the name Sutherland. This is the name of the manufacturer. It’s large enough to make someone think that it was personalized for you. In addition, we ordered 10, the company only sent one. So we are returning it for something with less advertising emblazoned across the front. I lurrve taking silly pictures! “Time to model David Beckham!” I grabbed the camera out of his hands and snapped a picture without him expecting it. Joe grabbed the picture and placed it on the table face down. “Let’s look at them at the end, it will be a surprise!” He smiled. Awee, he’s so cute!! “Okiee!” I grabbed the camera and kissed his cheek and snapped a picture. “I think you’ll have a blast with this!” He laughed. “Yup!” I did a peace sign and snapped another picture. “My turn!” He grabbed the camera and put on a very serious face and snapped a picture. Joe got me to pose on the picnic table and I did a billion silly poses. Since the table was full of photos, I picked up a few and made a fan out of them and did a few poses with those. “My turn now! Go on David Beckham! Show me what you got!” I smiled and walked back. “Well how’s THIS?” Joe did a disco pose and I laughed and snapped the picture. It went on like that for about another hour. I talk about the importance of keeping your backpack streamlined. Keep all critical gear inside the pack or in a side pocket. Don’t needlessly hang gear off your pack or you may risk losing it on the trail.
